Challenge
2:
"So
what can you do for us?"
The
Situation:
You
are a veteran staff communicator. Your job is to provide internal communication
support to five of your organization's operating divisions. At 4:45 p.m.
on a Friday, the most powerful division vice president in your organization
stops you in a hallway and asks you to come to his senior staff meeting
on Monday morning at 7:30. You agree and make a note on your calendar.
On Monday
morning at 8:15, the division vice president saunters into a conference
room filled with his senior managers, and you. He takes his usual seat
at the head of the conference table, spots you near the other end of the
table and says:
"(Jack/Jill),
thanks for coming this morning. We have a communication problem in this
division and we have to do better--especially this quarter. So, what can
you do for us?"
Question:
What
would you have said?
